Summary of Responsibilities

Lead all import/export activities for Yamaha Motor Canada. Roughly 70/30 split between support of Parts & Accessories and Units businesses.


Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supervise/Coordinate/Perform the following Import/Export activities:
    • Process all Import shipment clearance for all product lines prior to port or border arrival in Canada, including Dangerous Goods declaration where applicable.
    • Manage rates for P&A ocean and truck freight forwarders.
    • Process Export shipment of Parts and Accessories, including preparation of paperwork and communication with internal supply chain personnel, freight forwarder and broker.
    • Maintain import arrival dates in SAP to drive accurate calculation of arrival dates at dealer and improve dealer satisfaction.
    • Process Export shipments related to temporary export, e.g. for repair at manufacturing plant, demos/pre-prod units used for display, Marketing materials, HR manuals/documents.
    • Return reusable packaging material to manufacturing plant.
  • Facilitate implementation (testing/training/documentation) for SAP upgrade project (S4 Hana), as it relates to Global Trade (GTS).
  • Review and recommend improvements to streamline operational procedures and enhance document sharing and storage solution.
  • Lead additional Customs/Import/Export transformation/improvement projects as necessary.
  • Database maintenance for tariff classifications, MSR, USMCA and STC updated within 2 business days of receipt. Ongoing cleanup of existing HS Codes to ensure accuracy of duties paid.
  • Ensure 100% accuracy of entries for Duty and taxes and preparation of K84 reporting for internal accounting team. Duty and taxes processed and paid same day as received to The Receiver General of Canada.
  • Obtain USMCA/CPTPP certificates for qualified new models, communicate to broker and recover paid duties as necessary.
  • Own Trade Control policies for Yamaha Canada and interact with CBSA for compliance purposes, e.g. inquiry or audit.
Education Requirements and/or Experience Requirements
  • Degree/Diploma: Trade Compliance / CCS
  • Program of Study: Customs/Logistics
  • Years of Experience: 5+ years preferred
  • Type of Experience: Must have experience working in customs related field
Skills & Abilities
  • Customs Trade Compliance Certification (CTCS)
  • CIFFA certificate / CCS designation
  • Work experience on both Import and Export sides of business
  • Knowledge of SAP (ideally S4Hana)
  • Ability to work within CARM and work with broker
  • Cross-functional knowledge of Logistics and Customs practices
  • Re-certification of IATA training required for Dangerous Goods shipments every two years
  • Good communicator
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to multi-task
